LAST TRIP TO GRANDMA'S HOUSE BEFORE SHE MOVED. MY CAR IS TRAINED TO TURN LEFT INTO THE PARKING LOT OF THE MOTEL.
Coloring Easter eggs
My mom and her husband are completely moved out now. This was our last trip in April before they moved. They made the big move across the highway. Their property is right behind where we kept our horses for years. From their property you can look across and see the motel. How strange is that? I can't explain how it felt looking across the highway at my old house. We were there before Easter so we had an Easter egg hunt and the kids got Easter baskets from the Easter Bunny. I felt bad because Ashley didn't get to go with us. She had her break the week before so she was in school when we left. I know she wanted to go to grandma's one last time before they moved. A little story about the Easter Bunny. We brought Ashley back her Easter basket that we had made her. It was just like the others. The day before Easter we came home late. I don't usually leave so late in the day, but this time we did. Anyway, we got home around 10:00 and I had planned on hiding Ashley's basket outside so she could find it Easter morning. Just a few minutes after we got home Christine said, "mom I need to go to bed right now because if I don't the Easter Bunny will never come. " I said "well the Easter bunny brought you a basket at grandma's." She said that grandma had given the baskets to them and that the Easter bunny only comes on Easter. So I think to myself now what. I didn't have any basket planned for her and I would have to get everyone a basket for the next morning. Everything was closed except for the grocery stores, so at 12:30 I went to the store and bought baskets and the stuff to put in them. I came home and was putting candy in them and I thought to myself, "what if Christine comes out when I'm putting together Easter baskets?" I worry about the same thing on Christmas Eve when Santa comes. I finished and put the baskets in the back door. I would have hid them outside but the raccoons would have carried them away or made a mess of everything when they ate the candy. Not 5 seconds after I shut the door ,out came Christine, "mommy I had a bad dream." That was close. The next morning she's up bright and early to search for her basket. We all go outside and the first place she looks is in the back door. Sure enough she had found them. She turned to me and said, "mom why does the Easter Bunny always hide our baskets in the back door?" She says it's not any fun because she knows where they will be and she wanted to hunt for them. I told her that the Easter Bunny was probably worried about the raccoons taking their baskets, "Yeah," she says, "your right." So, this year they got double Easter baskets and candy. The Easter bunny is broke. I hope she believes in the Easter Bunny and Santa for years to come. Oh yeah, the Easter Bunny got to bed at 1:30 on Easter morning. I should be used to it by now. All those late night and middle of the night medicine runs for kids that get sick. We did have a good Easter and the girls had tons of candy.
Easter baskets for Dakota, Christine and Nicole Christine loves feeding the chickens at grandma's
Making molasses candy like they did on Little House on the Prairie. They had to substitute ice cubes for snow.
